Beautification of Indianapolis

Forty six murals. That was the number they landed on back in 2011 in preparation for Super Bowl XLVI itself. The whole thing, officially dubbed "46 for XLVI," grew out of a partnership between the Arts Council of Indianapolis and City Hall, and the mission was pretty simple on paper: dress the city up, culturally speaking, before the football world descended on it.

Here's the thing though, nobody wanted this to feel like slapping a coat of paint on things just for show. Local artists and folks from way outside Indiana ended up working side by side, scattering murals across Marion County like little bursts of color against all that Midwestern brick and concrete.
