Damon Lamar Reed

Look, most public art claims to change lives, but Damon Lamar Reed actually puts the work in. Across Chicagoland—from small corner storefronts to massive corporate walls, schools, and community centers—his murals, mosaics, and portraits do something pretty rare. They bridge that awkward gap between high-brow gallery space and raw, everyday neighborhood life.

It's a simple ethos, really: Art, Beauty, Culture. ABC.

Simple, sure, but not easy.

Take his Still Searching Project—maybe the clearest example of what he’s actually about. Instead of just painting pretty stuff for commercial clients, Damon uses his brush to track down missing Black women and children around Chicago. He paints their portraits right on the street. It forces people to look. It raises awareness where traditional news outlets usually just—well, move on. Through those portraits, art stops being a decorative commodity and starts acting as real-time advocacy, giving people a reason to hold onto hope when everything else feels stacked against them.
