Way back in 1968, before the Washington DC creative scene looked anything like it does today, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities hit the ground running.
It operates as an independent wing of the local government. Designated as the District's official state-level arts agency. The CAH spends its time sizing up, launching, and championing local programs that move the needle for local culture and the humanities.
Quite a workload, honestly.
Funding? Most of the cash flow comes straight from the District’s own taxpayer dollars, though the National Endowment for the Arts pitches in a solid secondary chunk to keep the wheels turning.
